The Training Course - Use of Agrobiodiversity information in GBIF and other databases will take place in Lisbon, between the 28th and 30th of June 2017. The course is organised by GBIF Portugal, GBIF Spain and College Food Farming and Forestry (F3) of the University of Lisbon, on the scope of the project Agrotraining - Proofing GBIF use on agrobiodiversity through needs assessment and training, financed by the Capacity enhancement support progamme of GBIF (Global Biodiversity Information Facility).

With this course, we intend to respond effectively to new challenges in the use of agrobiodiversity information on food production and healthy diets. Farming systems rely on the sustainable exploitation of crop wild relatives, landraces and neglected or underutilized species, but also on non-crops wild biodiversity that benefits ecosystem services in agricultural landscape. The following topics will be addressed:

  • Information analysis tools for biodiversity and environmental data in the context of agrobiodiversity
  • Agrobiodiversity information for crop systems
  • Benefits of wild-species biodiversity to farming activities

The use of biodiversity information will be extensively explored, either from GBIF (including the infrastructure of software tools) or other sources, in which case links with GBIF will be promoted or tested.
