Miguel Bastos Araújo, professor e investigador convidado da Universidade de Évora, foi distinguido com a atribuição do prestigiado galardão EBBE NIELSEN PRIZE, concedido anualmente pelo Global Biodiversity Information Facility (GBIF).
A recent study published in Nature Climate Change shows that loss of biodiversity will benefit from the mitigation of climate change effects. This work was based on GBIF mediated data from the distribution of about 50 thousand species, both animal and plants.
The new portal of the Portuguese Node of the Global Biodiversity Information Facility was recently released in bilingual version (Portuguese / English), in order to publicize the activities of the GBIF Secretariat, the Portuguese Node and of other national Nodes of the network. This release occurs simultaneously with the attribution to the Portuguese researcher Miguel Araújo of the prestigious Ebbe Nielsen 2013 by GBIF, acknowledging his pioneering work on the study of the impact of climate change on biodiversity.
A GBIF abriu convocatória para apresentação de candidaturas aos Prémios Jovens Investigadores 2013, que destacará trabalhos de investigação inovadores, desenvolvido por alunos em programas de graduação, no domínio da Informática para a Biodiversidade. Será valorizada a utilização de dados primários de Biodiversidade veiculados através da GBIF. Serão atribuídos dois prémios, um para alunos de mestrado e outro para alunos de doutoramento, no valor de 4 000€ cada.
Candidaturas ao Prémio Ebbe Nielsen 2013 da GBIF Está aberta a convocatória para apresentação de candidaturas ao Prémio Ebbe Nielsen 2013, a atribuir pela Global Biodiversity Information Facility (GBIF) a um investigador ou pequeno grupo de investigação que se tenha destacado em novas aplicações nos domínios da Biossistemática ou da Informática para a Biodiversidade.
The Tropical Research Institute, based in Lisbon, was designated by the Foundation for Science and Technology to be the Portuguese Node of GBIF. The protocol signed by both institutions provides for the development of an bilingual Internet portal, the promotion of GBIF at national level, installation and management of infrastructure and information systems for the storage of databases, the assessment of the state of digitization of biological collections, conducting training and dissemination of GBIF activities along the CPLP countries.
The Portuguese Node of GBIF, through its participation in the european project H2020 EGI-Engage, is seeking for a collaborator in computer sciences. The research grant contract will run for 9 months and requires a degree in computer sciences. The collaborator will support the implementation and maintenance of the system Atlas of Living Australia in the context of biodiversity data for Portugal.
