O total de registos disponíveis através do GBIF para Portugal ultrapassou os 7,8 milhões, após a duplicação de dados de aves feita pelo eBird. Deste modo, aumentou também o total de registos publicados por Portugal, que ultrapassa agora os 7 milhões de registos.
Angola is the most recent country participating in the GBIF network, which represents an important advance for the global knowledge on biodiversity. Angola is one of the most biotope diverse countries in Africa, with 15 ecoregions, being one of the most biodiverse countries in the world. Data sharing through GBIF will allow the development and enhancement of the role of local museum and herbarium collections, which should reflect the richness and biological complexity of the region, to support the advancement of knowledge in this African country.
Foi anunciado o suporte a jovens investigadores ou estudantes de doutoramento originários de países de inclusividade do COST (incluíndo Portugal) para a participação em conferências científicas, no âmbito da ação COST MOBILISE: Mobilising Data, Policies and Experts in Scientific Collections. A próxima conferência abrangida por este suporte é a Biodiversity_Next Internacional Conference (Leiden, Holanda, 19-25 Outurbo 2019).
The IMAR Institute, from the University of Coimbra, is specialized in Marine and Environmental Sciences, focused on coastal zones and hydrographic basins. They have been registered as publishers since 2017 and are endorsed by OBIS, a global, open access information center on marine biodiversity for science, conservation and sustainable development.

The call is now open for applications to the 2019 Young Researchers Award. This annual programme aims to foster innovative research and investigation in biodiversity informatics by graduate students whose master’s and doctoral studies rely on GBIF-mediated data.
Está aberta para candidaturas o primeiro curso de formação do Cost action MOBILIZE, organizada sob o WG6 “EDUCAÇÃO E TREINAMENTO, DISSEMINAÇÃO E DIVULGAÇÃO”. O curso de formação será focado na digitalização e na gestão de coleções biológicas e geológicas e no desenvolvimento de estratégias e planos de digitalização. Os tópicos específicos que serão abordados durante a formação através de exercícios práticos são, entre outros, a qualidade dos dados, a limpeza dos dados e a origem dos dados.
The Portuguese Node of GBIF, together with the Spanish Node and the Food, Farming and Forestry (F3) College of the University of Lisbon, launched in April 2017 the questionnaire on the use of information on agrobiodiversity, within the framework of the Agrotraining project. The aim was to identify the needs on the use of biodiversity information in the field of Agrobiodiversity, by different actors.
The Portuguese Node of GBIF maintains cooperation with the Government of Angola in supporting the process of preparing that country to become a member of GBIF.

A ação MOBILISE visa facilitar a transferência de conhecimento e tecnologia entre stakeholders, fazendo a ponte entre a investigação em biodiversidade e geociências e as melhores práticas da tecnologia de informação.
