Data use examples

Data mediated by GBIF presently provides support for a growing number of scientific applications, and supports uses by global platforms and forums (e.g. GEO-BON , IPBES ) and management of natural resources. The list of uses of biodiversity information includes:

  • scientific research,
  • resources management (fisheries, forestry, etc),
  • habitat restoration,
  • environmental impact assessment,
  • sustainable development programmes,
  • invasive species,
  • ecosystems goods and services,
  • conservation strategies,

GBIF Secretariat mantains a Public Library on Mendeley which is continuously updated with new references and articles that use GBIF mediated data, or refer and discuss GBIF.
