Les Herbonautes launches a mission for the digitalization of Angolan specimens

The portal Les Herbonautes launched a mission dedicated to cataloguing herbarium specimens of Angola of the National Museum of Natural History in Paris. This portal is a citizen science web platform that allows participants, on a voluntary basis, to insert into a database the information of the labels of the specimens, using the specimen images. The cataloged data is then shared freely through GBIF.

Portuguese Researcher selected as finalist of the GBIF Ebbe Nielsen Challenge 2015

The portuguese researcher Miguel Porto is one of the six finalists selected for the second phase of the Challenge GBIF Ebbe Nielsen 2015, becoming a candidate to win a first place prize pool of € 20,000. The second place will be awarded a prize of € 5,000, and the six finalists selected by the jury, among the 23 proposals submitted, have been awarded with a prize of € 1,000. The final results will be presented at the 22nd GBIF Governing Board, in October 2015, to be held in Madagascar.

Seminars GBIF Information Day

In the last month of December the GBIF Portuguese Node performed the national roadmap of seminars GBIF Information Day, which was attended by 159 participants from 26 different institutions, including universities and research institutions, ICNF (the national nature conservation and forests agency), regional and local administration, private companies, NGOs and aquariums. 

Nova edição do GBits já disponível

Já se encontra disponível um novo número do Gbits, n.º 42, Dezembro 2014. Nesta edição é destacado o desafio GBIF Ebbe Nielsen que substitui o habitual prémio Ebbe Nielsen.  É também referido o projeto conjunto entre Índia e Noruega na obtenção de dados de Biodiversidade e é referida também a conferência dos padrões de informação de biodiversidade bem como a conferência COP-12 e os seus resultados.

The 2015 Young Investigators GBIF Award are available for applications

Is it now open the call for nominations for the 2015 GBIF Young Researchers Award, which will highlight innovative research, developed by students in master's or doctoral studies in the field of Biodiversity Informatics. The two prizes will be awarded with a money prize of 4 000€ each.

The New Ebbe Nielsen Challenge 2015 was launched

It is now available the registration for the Ebbe Nielsen GBIF challenge that replaces the usual Ebbe Nielsen award. This challenge aims to inspire scientists, informatics, data modelers, cartographers and other specialists to innovate and create new applications in the area of free access to biodiversity data in a competition for a 1st prize of 20 000€ and 2nd prize of 5 000€.
 

The Instituto de Investigação Cientifica Tropical publish the Compilation of Bibliographic records of Angola mammals trought GBIF

The Instituto de Investigação Cientifica Tropical (IICT), has recently published the collection of Bibliographic records of Angola mammals with 9879 occurrences. The data are available at IPT service of the IICT and through the international GBIF portal.

Checklist of the Vascular Plants of Portugal from The Lusitanian Association of Phytosociology, through GBIF

The GBIF node has just published through its IPT service the Checklist of Portuguese Flora with information about 3994 taxa, including establishmet means and emdemins status. Data are available through the IPT service of the Portuguese Node of GBIF and through the international GBIF portal.
