Reune para a semana a 21ª Assembleia Geral do GBIF

A 21ª reunião da Assembleia Geral do GBIF acontecerá na próxima semana, entre 15 e 19 de Setembro em Nova Deli. Nesta reunião Portugal participará enquanto membro votante da organização, que conta com 52 países participantes e 40 organizações.

The first botanical collection of the Museu de História Natural, Universidade do Porto was published in GBIF

The Museu de História Natural of Universidade do Porto, as one of the most recent national data providers, published there first botanic collection through GBIF. The “Colecção de Briófitas do Herbário do Porto (PO)” contains a total of 7621 occurrences of which more than 99% are georeferenced. The data are available at IPT service of the Portuguese Node and through the international GBIF portal.
Prémio Jovens Investigadores GBIF 2014 atribuído a Vijay Barve e Caoimhe Marshall

O prémio Jovem Investigador GBIF de 2014 foi atribuído a dois investigadores, Vijay Barve (Índia) e Caoimhe Marshall (Irlanda). Este prémio, no valor de 4000€, é atríbuido pelo Comité Científico do GBiF a jovens investigadores que tenham uma investigação inovadora e original, com um potencial significativo para a ciência da biodiversidade e pelo uso criativo dos dados publicados através do GBIF.
Prémio Ebbe Nielsen 2014 atribuído a Tony Rees (CSIRO), Austrália

O prestigiado prémio Ebbe Nielsen de 2014 foi atribuído a Tony Rees, cujas ferramentas informáticas inovadoras permitiram a disponibilização de dados biológicos Terrestres. Este prémio é atribuído pelo Comité Científico do GBiF a investigadores que combinem na sua investigação a Biosistemática e a informática para a biodiversidade.
Portal de dados GBIF enriquecido com fotografia, audio ou video dos registos de ocorrência de biodiversidade

Os utilizadores do portal de dados do GBIF podem agora pesquisar registos de ocorrência de espécies que estejam acompanhados por fotos, som e vídeo. O portal passou a incluir estes conteúdos multimédia na visualização de dados, iniciando, neste momento, com perto de 1 milhão de ocorrências de espécies com itens multimédia.

The 2013 annual report of the Portuguese Node of GBIF is available here (in portuguese).
Portugal joined GBIF in 2001, but only in 2013 it was possible to setup the Portuguese Node. This first year of work served to its implementation in four main pillars - infrastructure, data mobilization, training, cooperation. The actions developed at the national level in 2013 included:
Open Access Policy: GBIF as open access data repository of biodiversity data

The Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia has put into force as of May 5, 2014, the Open Access Policy, which requires that scientific publications and data and other results of scientific research, resulting from funding allocated by FCT, through R&D projects, grants and scientific contracts must be deposited in open access repositories.

The Portuguese GBIF Node (www.gbif.pt) is committed to promoting the use of biodiversity information available through the GBIF data portal (www.gbif.org) to ensure that the best and most complete existing information can be used for scientific research, in natural resource management, decision support and environmental impact assessment, among others.
