The publication of biodiversity primary data can be done through GBIF. These data can be made available by Natural History collections, environmental monitoring programmes, citizen science, universities and researchers, private companies, among others. 

Currently there are four dataset classes, which start simple and become progressively richer, more structured and complex: 

• Resource metadata (exemples)
• Checklist data (exemples)
• Occurrence data (exemples)
• Events data (exemples)
