GBIF Portugal colaborates in the Regional Meeting and Workshop for Nodes of BID Africa

Rui Figueira took part, as a mentor, of the African Regional Meeting from the Biodiversity Information for Development (BID) Programme, that was held from the 3rd to the 6th of September 2019, in Yaoundé, Cameroon. The meeting had more than 50 colaborators from African Nodes or from projects financed by BID, and was organised by Governing Board of GBIF and by the Ministry of the Environment, Nature Protection and Sustainable Development from the Cameroon. 

Angola joins the GBIF network and increases the participation of Portuguese-speaking countries in the organization

Angola is the most recent country participating in the GBIF network, which represents an important advance for the global knowledge on biodiversity. Angola is one of the most biotope diverse countries in Africa, with 15 ecoregions, being one of the most biodiverse countries in the world. Data sharing through GBIF will allow the development and enhancement of the role of local museum and herbarium collections, which should reflect the richness and biological complexity of the region, to support the advancement of knowledge in this African country.

Seminar in Bissau on biodiversity information presents GBIF to institutions and organizations of Guinea-Bissau

The biodiversity information and the role of the Global Biodiversity Information Facility (GBIF) was the main topic of a seminar held at the Instituto da Biodiversidade e Áreas Protegidas in Bissau, last July 14. The seminar was co-organised by IBAP and the Portuguese Node of GBIF. In this seminar, there were also presented IBAP's activities site devoted to the management of biodiversity information in protected areas, through databases and geographic information systems.

Seminar about GBIF in Guinea-Bissau takes place by next July 14, hosted by IBAP

It is already on the 14th of July, that the Instituto de Biodiversidade e das Áreas Protegidas (IBAP) of Guiné-Bissau hosts, at its headquarters in Bissau, the seminar The Global Biodiversity Information Facility (GBIF) and the availability of biodiversity data about Guinea-Bissau. The seminar is co-organized by the IBAP and the Portuguese GBIF Node, and runs under the GBIF_PALOP project to promote GBIF on African Portuguese-speaking countries.

Workshop in Maputo discusses the participation of Mozambique on the Global Biodiversity Information Facility (GBIF)

The importance of the participation of Mozambique in GBIF was the topic for discussion in a workshop held in Maputo, co-organized by the Eduardo Mondlane University (Department of Biological Sciences) and the Portuguese Node of GBIF. About 40 participants from universities, natural history museums, research institutes and Mozambican NGOs also gained better understanding about the objectives of the GBIF network, its operation and the requirements and implementation process of a national node.

Workshop in Luanda on sharing of biodiversity data discusses participation of Angola in GBIF

About 30 people from Angolan museums, universities and national environment, agriculture and fisheries agencies attended in Luanda to the workshop on Scientific Data Sharing about Biodiversity. The event was organized by the Ministry of Science and Technology of Angola with the collaboration of the Portuguese Node of GBIF and was held in the Talatona Convention Centre, the 10th of September, as a side event of the 4th National Conference on Science and Technology.
