Workshop in Luanda on sharing of biodiversity data discusses participation of Angola in GBIF

About 30 people from Angolan museums, universities and national environment, agriculture and fisheries agencies attended in Luanda to the workshop on Scientific Data Sharing about Biodiversity. The event was organized by the Ministry of Science and Technology of Angola with the collaboration of the Portuguese Node of GBIF and was held in the Talatona Convention Centre, the 10th of September, as a side event of the 4th National Conference on Science and Technology.

Promote GBIF in the African Portuguese speaking countries through documentation and seminars

One of the goals of this project is to provide Portuguese translations of a set of essential documents that a newcomer country to the GBIF community will need. This includes documents to help promoting GBIF, to support a node establishment and setup, and to help data digitising and mobilisation projects by publishers. The other goal is to promote the engagement by African Portuguese speaking countries to GBIF through seminars to be presented, particularly, in Angola, Guinea-Bissau and Mozambique.

News on the project:

Encounter Bay (ALA Node portal internationalization)

The main goal of this project is to facilitate the reuse the Atlas of Living Australia software for the development of their national biodiversity portals, by providing the internationalization of the framework to French, Portuguese and Spanish. It also aims at producing the key technical documentation (basic installation and operation guides) available in English and translated into the three languages; and translation guidelines for further translations of the software (in English).

The project is funded by the GBIF Capacity Enhancement Support Programme 2015
